Martha Rosler works in a range of different ways, in photography, sculpting, photo text, video, installation and performance. Her images convey a message in a different way compared to Kruger's work, she is able to convey a message without having any text explaining it, the message is till shown however it is less explicit. I like this because it gives room for thinking and for the person looking at the photograph to make other ideas. A lot of the message in the photographs arent the clear and make me think so I can understand it more. For example, why is the lady holding a knife? This links to the threshold concept of 'photogram have their own visual language and grammar' because without words they can mean something even if its not in simple English.

In the photograph, I see an astronaut on the moon and the USA flag. I recognise the flag and the surface being the moon. The colours used in the photograph are quite bland and neutral (mostly black and white) with the exception of the flag which is red and blue which makes it stand out the most. The subject in my opinion is the astronaut and the flag. I think the photographer made some editing online to show the differentiation in the flag and the background. Additionally, I appreciate this as it interests me very much and would like to further ask the photographer why he decided to keep the flag the only thing in colour. I also wonder if the picture has been made and edited or it was directly taken from space and if that is the case what camera was used and how? I think living in this picture would be interested as it is outside this world as I’ve always been interested in the space and outside of world and would be very different to our current earth on earth. I believe this flag being the only part of the picture being in colour is trying to convey a political message about the USA. This would be effective as it stands out the most in the image. This made me think about the first threshold concept "Photography has many genres, some old, some borrowed, some new" because of the space/sci fi like genre.

Lorna Simpson's work have been shown in many exhibitions internationally and nationally. She is best known for her her photo text installations, photo collages and films. She made a set of photographs by using collage and cutting and sticking together new hair on top of the faces. She is an African American photographer and I believe these set of photographs are personal to her as the faces were cut out of an ebony magazine which was owned by her grandmother. She believed that because of that it was very contextual and brings her back to her childhood.

Kruger's way of making pictures is by developing her ideas on the computer and then transferring them into images. Most of her work is black and white with a bold statement overlaid on top with a red background. Her work is very unique in my opinion and thats why I'm interested inter style of work and I used this to make my own on top of models from magazines. I like her work, I like the way Kruger has the black and white picture and the white text on the red, I think it looks very good and the red stands out on top of the black and white picture.
