John Baldessari is a famous contemporary artist. He sometimes uses photography in his work, often images that he has found and changed in some way. This video is a great introduction to his work and ideas.
Mr Nicholls showed us one particular image by the artist entitled 'Wrong'. We were asked to look carefully at the image and suggest why we thought it was given the title 'Wrong'.
Apparently the composition is wrong but I don't think there is anything wrong with it
It's boring
It has no colour and is very simple
There is nothing imaginative about it
It is pointless
The man should be placed somewhere else
Some of the objects (tree, car) don't fit in the frame
There is nothing wrong with this image because art is everywhere and everything
It's depressing
Everything is wrong in this photo
It's boring and the artist said that he would never make any more boring art
He has used one of his 'mistakes' as a work of art
We were asked to write on the picture why we felt it might have been given the title 'Wrong'.
We were then asked to make a list of the hidden 'rules' of photography and what might make a photograph wrong. We attempted to take as many pictures as we could that deliberately broke as many of these 'rules' as possible.
some rules were:
Don't cover up the subject
Make show the photo is straight
Make sure its not blurry
Don't be too far from the subject
Don't put yourself in danger
Make sure its not dark
Don't draw attention from the main subject
Dont crop out the subject
use flash when in dark places
Keep camera still and steady
even though these rules were said to be 'wrong', At the end the pictures look very cool.
I think the second one was then wronged you because E it wasn't very Obecause ir w
